An invitation to marinate in daydreams.

Happy New Year.

Go gently into the year. There's a lot about the place of figuring out 2024, what our goals are, what our word of the year is, what we want, how we want to feel, who we want to be, the things we want to change or accept or call in or let go of.

It's kind of exhausting and it's only January 2.

So if you're not already familiar with the idea of marinating in your daydreams instead of rushing to set goals, here's an invitation to do just that.

How would it feel to take the first couple of months to ease into the year, like you're climbing into a hot bath. You know it'll feel good once you're in there, but take your time. Get used to the temperature. Stick a toe in, maybe put more cool water in, light a candle. Try on different dreams for the year that's just starting to come alive.

Let go of the external pressure to have the whole thing mapped out by yesterday and luxuriate in the good version of the question 'what if I…' (not the catastrophising 'what if', but the expansive, possibility seeking 'oooh…. what if!'

What might please me? What might feel fun? What might be really satisfying? What might I really enjoy looking back on if I took a chance on it? What might be delightfully unexpected?

What if we spent a month or two daydreaming, with absolutely no pressure to DO anything about any of these dreams, letting our desires germinate in their own time, until we naturally want to start, rather than forcing ourselves? Can we trust ourselves to begin when it's time?

That sense that we need to be productive at all times, even while sleeping, must have every minute accounted for might not like it… but what if we floated on into the new year when we were ready, took a bunch of time to daydream and let it all happen slowly, deliciously, with delight?

This is what I want for the start of my year - I'm beginning to marinate in daydreams for the year ahead today. You're invited to be slow with me, if that feels as good to you as it does to me.
