Have you noticed how seasons never get stuck?

Seasons never get stuck. Have you noticed?

They roll on, one into the next, in their own time. Sometimes winter will be long, or sometimes summer will be cooler than usual, but the seasons keep on moving through their cycle, one after the other.

The moon is the same - it’s never stuck. It cycles through its phases, one into the next, drawing the tides with it as it goes.

There’s something comforting about seasons and the way they keep on moving. Maybe we don’t like the season we’re in, but if we’re attuned to our internal seasons, we can have some idea of where we’re at, and of what might be coming next.

After a time of deep introspection and internal winter, we often experience a re-emergence into the world, a kind of spring.

After a time of making things happen out in the world, expressiveness and creativity, we often experience that creative cycle coming to a close, and we have time to reflect and start to get a bit quiet before we need to rest, ready for the next season of expansion when it comes.

Like breathing. Inhale follows exhale. Expansion follows contraction. High tide follows low tide.

Seasons can be trusted.

What do you notice, thinking about seasons in this way? Can you get a sense of being held by them?

We’re having fun exploring cycles and seasons in the current Art Journal Alchemy group - seasons lend themselves very well to visual exploration.

If you’d like to play along, here are some questions for you to play with in your own art journal:

  • What season are you in?

  • What is this season asking of you?

  • What is it offering you?

  • Can you feel the stirring of the next season to come?

And if you’d like to join the Art Journal Alchemists for our next workshop series in a month or so, click here to send me an email and let me know, and I’ll let you know when you can register :)
