Expanding because we’re ready, not because we’re not enough
Here’s a thought to think:
Many people (myself included, on occasion) are attracted to the doorways opened by personal development because they believe they need to be fixed. We’re trying to soothe the pain of feeling not enough or too much or flawed in some way. This was one of my main motivations FOR. YEARS. Endlessly searching for ‘the thing’ that would magically fix me, and by extension fix everything else in my life that wasn’t working out.
I had some great experiences and I learned a heap of really cool stuff but I never found that thing in any of the places I was looking.
(I ended up finding it by accident, when I was otherwise occupied, and didn’t even notice that I wasn’t relating to myself as broken or not enough any more until quite a long time later - but that’s a story for another day).
What’s happening now that I’m not running from the pain of feeling never enough, is that I’m stepping through doorways into the unknown because I’ve reached a stage where I’m ready for the next phase of growth or expansion. I’m driven by a curiosity to see what’s possible, rather than running from the pain of feeling not enough.
Running from pain is a great way to get moving initially… but it gets hard to sustain that over the long term without getting really tired.
And so if you’re relating to any of this - my wish for you is to step through doorways with open curiosity, knowing you’re enough for whatever you find there.
So in a nutshell - when we step through doorways into the unknown from a place of ‘not enough’, looking for ‘the thing’ that will fix us, we don’t find it.
When we step through doorways from a place of absolutely enough, coming from curiosity, magic happens. We find there’s nothing to fix, and we’ve been solving a problem that doesn’t exist this whole time…
...and we smile at ourselves because we know there’s still nothing to fix - we’ve just been following a harder path than we need to.
